BATH, NY – Steuben County Election Commissioners Vicky Olin (R) and Kelly Penziul (D) both announced that the state legislature is working on passing a new law, so that general election days are a day off from school too.
“In many towns, schools are the only place available to hold elections,” said Penziul. “The more familiar people are with a polling place, the more apt they are to vote,” stated Olin.
If signed into law, the bills mean students would not attend school on general election days, although
the schools could hold in-service days for staff, according to Republican Election Commissioner
Veronica Olin and Democratic Commissioner Kelly Penziul.
