January 28, 2014

BATH, NY – Steuben County Industrial Development Agency Director Jamie Johnson spoke at Monday’s Steuben County Legislative meeting. Johnson spoke about the possibilities of the future of wind power in Steuben County. “Wind energy has the potential for another 200 megawatts in additional wind power in Steuben County. One of the issues that we’re facing with that, is the lack of infrastructure in the transmission infrastructure, and we’ll be working to try to advance that,” Johnson told the Steuben County Legislature. “As well as wind, we’re also starting to see some interest in solar projects, and we’ve been having discussions with solar projects, and we’ve been having discussions with some solar providers,” Johnson stated.

Johnson also says that with Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Start Up New York, businesses that locate near Alfred State, Alfred University or Corning Community, would be able to operate tax-free.
