Susanne “Sally” Stuckey, of Canisteo

Canisteo, NY – Susanne M. “Sally” Stuckey, 74, of State Route 36 passed away Tuesday (March 4, 2014) at St. James Mercy Hospital following a brief illness.

Sally was born September 10, 1939 in Olean to John and Catherine (Barr) McKenney. In 1977 in Canisteo she married Isaac T. “Ike” Stuckey who predeceased her in 1983. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by a son Robert Dietrich in April of 2012, daughter-in-law Sherri Dietrich, a sister: Betty McKenney, three brothers: John, Daniel and William McKenney and two step-sons: Dennis and Thomas Stuckey.

Sally was a graduate of Allegany Academy in Allegany N.Y. and for over 30 years was employed with the area catholic churches as secretary/bookkeeper/receptionist for both the former St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Canisteo and Our Lady of the Valley Church in Hornell where she retired from in 2009. She was very active in area youth sports throughout her life and was the first President of the Canisteo Youth Football Organization which was formed in 1972. She was a member of both the Canisteo American Legion and Hornell VFW Woman’s Auxiliaries. Sally enjoyed her sports at every level and was a big fan of professional football and the San Francisco 49ers. She was an avid fan of John Wayne films and very much enjoyed her “Bingo” nights out.

Sally is survived by four sons: John Dietrich of Alfred, William (Sheryl) Dietrich of Cape Corral, FL., Thomas Dietrich of Gilbert, AZ. and Donald Dietrich of Canisteo, three wonderful granddaughters: Amanda (Ryan) Welch, Danee Dietrich and Catherine Dietrich, a step-grandson Joseph Mancini and great grandson: Michael Robert Welch. She is also survived by two step-children: Jeffrey Stuckey and Linda Jenkins both of Hornell and two sisters: Jean (John) Washington of Olean and Nancy VanCourt of Glendale, AZ. as well as several nieces and nephews

The family will receive friends from1-3 and 6-8 PM Friday with evening prayers at 8:00 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo. A Mass and Christian burial will take place Saturday at 1:00 PM at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Hornell. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Canisteo.
