Thomas M. “Tommy” Chriscaden, of Canisteo

CANISTEO: Thomas M. “Tommy” Chriscaden, 53, of Depot St. passed away unexpectedly of natural causes, Wednesday morning, May 31st, at his home.

Thomas, who was better known as either “Tommy” or “Beaver”, was born January 3, 1964 in Hornell to Laverne and Helen (Ryan) Chriscaden.

Tommy was a graduate of Canisteo Central School class of 1982. He was a member of the wrestling, baseball, and track teams. He was employed for several years in the maintenance department at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell.

Tommy was an avid sports fan. At one time, he enjoyed playing league softball in Hornell. Throughout his life he continued to enjoy playing pool. He loved watching Sunday football games with his father. He was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and New York Jets. He was also very fond of watching the Penn State Nittany Lions. Tommy enjoyed watching NASCAR racing, particularly Jeff Gordon. His favorite baseball team was the N.Y. Mets, who he once traveled to see play.

Tommy had a very charismatic personality. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed holidays, especially dressing up for Halloween. Tommy loved to participate in family gatherings throughout the year. While at home he spent time with his two beloved, loyal dogs, Max and Emmitt. Tommy enjoyed singing and dancing. He had a special family at the Nikk L Brew, where he participated in karaoke and trivia nights. Tommy lived life to the fullest, and enjoyed having a good time.

Survivors include a daughter: Taren (Brandon) Combs of Purdy Creek Rd. two granddaughters: Alanis and Aliese Combs, his father Laverne Chriscaden of Canisteo, three sisters: Katherine (Kelly) Reynolds, Julie (James) Tobin and Shelly (John) Clancy all of Hornell and a brother Charles (Felicia ) Chriscaden of Hornell, as well as several nieces and nephews. Tom was predeceased by his mother, Helen in October of 1973, his maternal grandparents Manus and Erma Ryan, his paternal grandfather Charles Chriscaden, his paternal grandparents Ervin and Hazel Northrup, his uncle Leon Chriscaden and his two nieces, Lauren Clancy and Cheyanna Nickel.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 and 6-8 pm Wednesday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo, where a memorial service will take place immediately following calling hours at 8:00 pm with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Canisteo.
