Update On Hornell Woman Injured In NJ: New Jersey Man Facing Numerous Charges, Including Driving While Under Drug Influence

From The Atlantic City New Jersey Police Department: 

On December 5, 2018, a woman is in serious condition after being struck by a van being operated by an impaired, unlicensed driver.

At 4:15 pm, patrol officers responded to Michigan and Arctic Avenues for a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.  A woman, 63 years old from Hornell, NY, was walking on the sidewalk when she struck by a van that had left the roadway.  The woman was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, with serious injuries.

During the investigation by Officer Jimmy Rodriguez of the Accident Investigations Section, the driver of the van, Mario Macellari, was arrested for driving under the influence.  Officer Joseph Bereheiko, a certified Drug Recognition Expert, conducted a series of tests and determined that Macellari was under the influence of narcotics while he was driving.  The reason for Macellari leaving the roadway is not known. 

ARRESTED:  Mario Macellari, a 52 year old male from Tuckerton, NJ.

CHARGES:  Aggravated assault, assault by auto, DWI, reckless driving, careless driving, and unlicensed driver.

Macellari was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
