HORNELL, NY – U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer (D, NY) was in Hornell on Friday morning, visiting with Altom President of Transportation Jerome Wallut (center), Hornell Industrial Development Agency Director Jim Griffin (right), Hornell Deputy Mayor John Buckley and others.  Mayor Shawn Hogan was not there, Schumer lightly joked about that, noting that it’s the mayor’s birthday today.

Also present was Steuben County Manager Mark Alger, Deputy Manager Jack Wheeler, Steuben County Industrial Development Agency leader Jamie Johnson, the Steuben County IDA’s Jim Nisbet, Steuben County Legislator Randy Weaver (D, Hornell) and other notables.

Schumer is hoping to get Alstom a three billion dollar contract with Alstom in Hornell, which could lead to the hiring of between 500 and close to 1,000 new employees.
According to Senator Schumer, if Amtrak gets the federal approvals needed to move forward with buying the new trains, it could help Alstom in Hornell, as well as ATM and Transit Air in Hornell.
