Village of Canisteo to Sell Old Fire Truck, Property

December 5, 2016

CANISTEO, NY – At Monday night’s Canisteo village board meeting it was decided that the retired 1984 Mack fire engine will be put up for sale on EBay and Craigslist. It was the general consensus that the proceeds of the truck will be minimal, and instead of selling it for scrap metal, it would be worth it to at least get some reimbursement for it. Also going on the auction block is the hot tar application machine. This will be posted in the classifieds.

The village board agreed to sell the property adjacent to the village Hall on Green Street for market value. The acre lot is of interest to an elderly couple who plan on building a house on at least ½ acre of the property. The lone objection came from board member Jack Beers whose reasoning was that they currently own the lot and who knows what the future holds as far as expansion. The next step is to get an appraisal from a realtor. The deal is not set in stone as the couple is looking for property in other districts as well.

The village announced that they have officially gone with the Ryan Agency for their insurance in the upcoming fiscal year. Board member Paul Cone said that it was a good deal all around and it will save the village considerable amount of money.

Canisteo village residents recently received a tax rebate check from NYS for various amounts. Mayor Bill Tucker explained that this is the result of the village staying under the 2% tax cap and not all villages were fortunate to get this perk.

There was much praise for the leaf pickup service that the village provided this fall with many residents expressing their thanks on social media. As always, Tucker reminded residents and business owners that it is their responsibility to keep their sidewalk clear of snow and ice and respect off street parking during the winter months.

Because of the New Year Holiday, the board has postponed their January meeting by one week from January 2nd to the 9th.
