Virginia Parker, of Almond

ALMOND-Mrs. Virginia Parker, a long time resident of Almond N.Y., died Monday the 25th of July at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell.

The daughter of the late Pietro and Fortunata Maniscalco; Virginia was born February 17, 1925 in Philadelphia Pa.

She was employed for 20 years at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell as an EKG, ER, and ICU technician.

Besides her parents, she was also pre-deceased by her husband, Gerald C. Parker of Almond N.Y., and her two brothers, Joseph Maniscalco of Philadelphia, Pa. and Frank Maniscalco of Florida.

Virginia is survived by her three daughters, Cheryl (Terence) Allison of Almond, N.Y.,Virginia (Jonathan) Garippa of Dover, Delaware and Marlene (Timothy) Canavan of Rochester, N.Y.; her two grandchildren, Kevin P Canavan of Queens, N.Y. and Erin A Canavan of Brooklyn, N.Y.;
her sister, Ann (Rod) Youngquist of Canby, Oregon; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Virginia was a devout Catholic and a member of the Legion of Mary. She traveled to Tennessee in 1965 with St. Ann’s Church in Hornell to do missionary work with the Appalachia Mountain People and volunteered with her church groups throughout the years; including fund raisers, bake sales, pasta dinners, steak dinners, and Lenten Soup Suppers. Her many interests included gardening, sewing and preserving fruits and vegetables.

Virginia was very devoted to her family and most especially to her grandchildren. She was a compassionate soul and loving mother who shared her warmth with all of her family and friends.

The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell was honored to serve the family of Mrs. Virginia Parker.

To honor her wishes there were no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell. Committal prayers and interment followed at Until the Day Dawn Cemetery, Angelica.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to the Almond Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Dept., P.O. Box 256, Almond, N.Y. 14804.
