William F. Tucker, of Canisteo

CANISTEO-William F. Tucker, 92, of Russell St passed away peacefully Sunday (April 5, 2015) at his home.

 

Born May 22, 1922 in Washington D.C., he was the son of William F. and Mable V. (Anderson) Tucker. On October 14, 1944, in Camp Chaffee, Arkansas, he married Betty J. Van Allen who died in 2013 after 68 years of marriage. He was predeceased by a sister Mary (Tucker) Lynch who died in January 2015.

 

Bill spent his early years in the Washington D.C. area. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant, where he served stateside and in the Philippine Islands. He was a member of the IBEW Local 139 where he worked as a construction electrician until the age of 60, retiring in 1982. He recently received a 60 year pin as a member of the IBEW. He was a Trustee and Deputy Mayor on the Canisteo Village Board serving two terms of office. He was a lifelong member of the Hornell American Legion, Arthur H. Cunningham Post.

 

Bill is survived by one brother, John Franklin Tucker of North Beach, MD, two daughters, Sandra (Warren) Pierce of Canisteo and Marsha (Randy) Jackson of South Hornell; and one son, William K. (Fran) Tucker of Canisteo. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

 

There will be no public calling hours. A private family viewing and funeral service will be at the convenience of the family at the H. P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo.
Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Canisteo.
