HORNELL-Winifred E. “Winnie” McCollumn, 99, formerly of State Route 21, Town of Hornellsville, passed away Monday afternoon (Nov. 21, 2016) at Hornell Gardens, where she has resided for the past five years.
Born in Hornell on Aug. 21, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Floyd and Dora (Bickford) Martin. On Oct. 17, 1936, she was married at the First Baptist Church in Hornell to Donald L. McCollumn, who predeceased her on Aug. 21, 2006, after nearly 70 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her son, Donald R. “Mel” McCollumn in 2009, her daughter, Sandra Hurd in 2013 and her three sisters, Helen Harter, Doris Harter and Betty Kellogg.
A lifelong resident of Hornell, Winnie was employed at one time as a nurses’ aide at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell. She dedicated most of her life to being a homemaker, who enjoyed cleaning, cooking and baking.
Her loving family includes her three children, Jeanette Butler and Nancy Dugo (John Congelli) and Charles “Chuck” McCollumn all of Hornell; her 19 grandchildren, several great and great-great-grandchildren; also her nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral service will be held following callings hours at 1 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Dudley Jenkins officiating. Private interment will be in Rural Cemetery, Hornell.
