Arrest Made In Huge Street Fight In Corning

from Corning PD: On November 26, 2022, the Corning Police Department received a report that there had been a fight in the street on East Market Street.

Investigation revealed that a verbal altercation between two groups of people escalated and led to the assault with a baseball bat of a 23-year-old man. It is alleged that the 23-year-old victim and his friends, were walking on East Market Street, near Wall Street, when they were confronted by another group of persons that had pulled up in a pickup truck. The verbal confrontation escalated into a physical assault with a baseball bat when one of the occupants of the truck exited and struck the 23-year-old man in the back of the head. Initially, no calls to the police were made. The victim was taken from the scene by private vehicle to Corning Hospital. The victim was then transferred to the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre where he was listed in critical condition. The Corning Police Department was then contacted, and a criminal investigation was begun.

Members of the Corning Police Department and Elmira Police Department were able to identify the persons from the pickup truck and identify a suspect.

On December 6, 2022, at about 10:15AM, members of the Corning Police Department and Elmira Police Department located and arrested the suspect walking on Post Street in the City of Elmira.

DYLAN L FITCH, 23 years old of Elmira, NY, has been charged with: Assault in the First Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon Fourth Degree, and Reckless Endangerment 1st. Mr. Fitch was briefly held in the Steuben County Jail and was arraigned and released after appearing in Steuben County’s Centralized Arraignment Part (CAP) Court. The 23-year-old victim is still being treated for his injuries that he sustained because of the attack.
