CANISTEO, NY – At Monday night’s monthly Canisteo village board meeting various options was discussed on replacing the current outdated fire truck and putting an addition on the current building to accommodate a new truck. Canisteo mayor Bill Tucker explained to the board that the current truck is outdated and obsolete and parts can no longer be obtained for it. Also, he continued, new truck is not a viable option at this time because of cost and lack of grants available. However, he went on to say, a used truck is a viable option and the fire dept. should start getting quotes.

Fire chief Jeff Chase was in attendance and told the board that any new or used fire truck purchase would require an addition on the existing building because the building in its current form is not long enough. Preliminary quotes on an extension to the building would run about $20,000 excluding electrical work. According to Chase, another option would be to extend the front of the building but at a much higher cost. The board decided to look into both options.

In other news the board passed a resolution to set the village election day for Wednesday, March 18th, 2015, with the hours from noon to 9pm.
