Dodgers Beat Gliders Friday Night

The Hornell Dodgers used a three-run 8th inning to defeat the Dansville Gliders in a Friday night showdown at Maple City Park. The Dodgers improve to 4-5 on the year while the Gliders are 3-5.

The Dodgers got on the board early with a lead off homer by Wade Kelly (Coastal Carolina). Jack McDonald (Wilmington) followed with a single and Jordyn Smith (Grambling) came up and lifted another homer over the center field fence to make it 3-0.

In the 2nd, Mitch Daniels (Webster) led off with a double and scored two batters when McDonald laced a single to left.

Dansville scored a run in the 3rd, two in the 4th, and two more in the 5th to take a 5-4 advantage.

The game remained 5-4 until the 7th when the Dodgers tied it up when Tim Holler (Alfred State) hit a RBI double to right center to score Christopher Penna (Rhodes).

In the 8th, Aaron Mann (Drury) led off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Daniels hit a hard single to right to make it 1st and third with one out. With Kelly at the plate Mann scored on a wild pitch to give the Dodgers back the lead. Levi Hall followed with an infield single and he combined with Daniles on a double steal to make it 7-5. Smith added one more insurance run when he laced a single to right to plate Hall.

The Gliders got one run back in the 9th and had the tying run at the plate when Lewis Pettit (Alfred State) recorded the final out.

Pettit earned the win with four solid innings of relief. He allowed one unearned run on two hits while striking out five.

McDonald and Mann were each 2 for 3 while Daniels was 2 for 4. Smith finished 2 for 5 with 3 RBI.

Tyler Ross was 5 for 5 with four singles to lead the Gliders 13 hit attack.

Hornell hits the road tomorrow for a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Cortland.
