Food Stamp/Welfare Fraud Charges Against Hornell Man

HORNELL, NY – Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on June 2, 2021, Investigators of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested Gordon L. Cassidy, age 48, of Adsit Street, Hornell, New York. It is alleged that from September 2020 to March 2021, Mr. Cassidy knowingly and with intent to defraud the Steuben County Department of Social Services, provided false information and received $4375.48 in benefits he was not entitled to. Mr. Cassidy was charged with Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the First Degree, a class E Felony and Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a class D felony. Mr. Cassidy was also charged with Misuse of Food Stamps when he allegedly transferred his SNAP benefit card to another person for unauthorized use. Mr. Cassidy, a current inmate of the Steuben County Jail on other charges, was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and returned to custody.

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Steuben County Department of Social Services Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit, and the District Attorney’s Office.
