Hornell Gets $50,000 Grant From The State

November 29, 2022

The City of Hornell Water Treatment Plant has announced they’re getting a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) in the amount of $50,000. The Water Treatment Plant’s award will be used to complete an asset management plan.

“We’re really pleased to receive these grant funds to commence an asset management plan for our Water Treatment Plant. An asset management plan will allow us to recognize the assets and liabilities within our entire system as we look forward to identifying which improvements and investments may be necessary in the future,” stated operator Leonard Fucci. “A comprehensive study like this will provide us with a very thorough list of the equipment and infrastructure we have, along with its age and condition. It’s welcome news,” continued Fucci.

“Our water system runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. People trust that when they turn on their water supply, they will receive clean water. This requires continued investment in our infrastructure and we are very thankful for these funds to complete the water asset management plan through CDBG funding,” stated Mayor John Buckley.

The water treatment plant provides water to City residents, the Village of North Hornell, and sections of the Town of Hornellsville. The system produces an average of 2.0-2.2 million gallons of water per day with a maximum potential production of 4 million gallons. The plant, built in 1974, completed a $6.87 million dollar upgrade to its water storage capacity in 2021, with a current maximum storage of 4 million gallons.
