Hornell Schools May See Slight Tax Increase

Hornell School Looking At 2.69% Tax Increase
March 19, 2014

HORNELL N.Y. – The Hornell Board of Education met and went over another round of budget proposals for the coming 2014-15 school year. Superintendent Doug Wyant said that there would be no budget cuts, noting that the School district was going to add a few staff members for the next school year. Superintendent Wyant also talked about the coming budget which has a proposed, tentative increase of 2.69% which will still fall short of the tax cap which is 3.36%.

Wyant also said that the current levy for taxpayers may go down, depending on the amount of state aid the district will receive, which will be revealed when State legislators approve the 2014 State budget which is due on April 1st, 2014. The $35,000,000 budget for the city school district will include a 2.98% tax increase, however those numbers are based on the Governor Cuomo’s proposed budget, and that increase for taxpayers could decrease if legislators give the district more aid than what’s in the governors proposed budget at this time.
