January 3, 2021 – Steuben Covid Update

Data has been updated on cases through 12/31/21. About 150 additional cases have been investigated since then, but the data was not able to be processed in time for today’s report.

There were 243 cases from Wednesday’s update through the end of the year. Sadly, another resident has passed since Wednesday’s update. Of the new cases, 49% were not vaccinated. Of the cases that are hospitalized, 75% are not vaccinated.

Multiple positives are associated with: Bath VA (4), Christmas gatherings (16), Corning Inc Diesel Plant (11), and Wegmans in Corning (3).

The Steuben County Public Health Department also reports that they received notification of a COVID-related death. This brings the total number of COVID deaths in Steuben County to 274. The individual was a male resident of the Town of Hornby who died at the age of 67.

“Our condolences are with the family and friends of the gentleman who passed,” said Public Health Director, Darlene Smith. “If you have not already done so, include getting vaccinated or boosted on your list of New Year’s resolutions.”

All residents should continue to monitor themselves for COVID-19 symptoms of fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills or repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, and new loss of taste or smell and contact their healthcare provider for instructions if feeling ill.
