Message From Hartsville Town Supervisor

February 18, 2022

Dear Town Residents,

Unfortunately, we have been delt another difficult weather situation again last night. The heavy snow melt coupled with several inches of rain has wreaked havoc on our roads yet again. I want to let you know that I am actively working with the Highway Superintendent to plan and prioritize how we tackle this problem. Our road crew has been working all night and all day and will continue to work to provide safe passage one repair at a time.

If your road is not passable such that you cannot get to the main roads, please let me know. If you have a medical condition that requires deliveries etc., please let me know. If your road is impacted, please take a picture or short video, and send it to me (434-941-0537 or email hartsvillets17@gmail.com). I will be updating our town website www.townofhartsville.com please subscribe for automatic updates.

I ask that you use me as your contact. Please do not call Buddy unless it is EXTREME IMMEDIATE EMERGENCY or MEDICAL NEED as we work through these issues. Many of our roads do not have proper cellular service to reach the crew. I can help prioritize the issues with the town workers and keep focus on the most pressing situations. The roads will not be fixed overnight so I am asking for your patience.

In addition to the road flooding, the roads are wet with many areas of dangerous washouts, the temperatures dropped and then it snowed on top of them. This makes for dangerous and unforeseen conditions. Not only does the road crew have to manage the flooding but the cold temperatures remain, creating icy conditions on roads that may look passable. Our guys will be out sanding as soon as practical and after we address some of the most severe conditions. Please refrain from travel if you can and if you do venture out, please be careful.

Stay Safe,

Kriste Gerhard – Town Supervisor.
