New Hotel – Aldis Expansion May Be in the Works for Hornellsville

April 9th, 2019

ARKPORT, NY – Head of the Hornellsville Planning Board Joe Dick had some good news for the Town Board Tuesday night about the possibility of construction of a new hotel and expanding Aldis grocery store.

“I met last Thursday with representatives from MART, a subsidiary that owns the chains Econo Lodges or Comfort Inns, and plans are in the initial stages to put a new hotel off County Rte 66 across from Simmons Rockwell. The property has already been purchased and the planning phase is well underway,” said Dick.

According to Dick, the holdup is that they are waiting on a DEC permit because they have to raise the foundation 2 ½ feet because it’s in the flood plain. An obstacle the company is facing is that there is a trout street directly behind where they want to build which classifies it as an environmentally protected area. “Possibly it will go, possibly is will not, we will just have to wait and see.”

Also Aldis is planning on a new addition to their store, but according to Dick, no representative from the company has approached the planning board yet. Dick said he would keep the board updated on that.

In other news it was announced that the building the board was looking to purchase for a new Town Hall has been sold and a new search will have to resume for another location. Also a company is actively looking into Solar Farms in the area and a number of locations are currently under consideration.

And finally the Deputy Town Clerk updated the board that the Dog Census forms for the township has been completed and will be mailed out starting the end of this week.
