Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) and Congressman Andrew Garbarino (NY-02) sent the below letter to President Biden and Attorney General Garland calling on the Administration to send federal law enforcement officers to New York City to curb the recent spike in gun violence. Last week, murders were up 266% and shootings were up 200% over the same time last year. This comes after a number of policy changes, including Mayor de Blasio tying the hands of and issuing funding cuts to the NYPD.
Malliotakis’ letter comes one day before a woman and her four-year-old daughter were shot in broad daylight in the middle of Time Square.
