O’Mara Denounces Ithaca Common Council

TOMPKINS COUNTY, NY – There is some controversy brewing on the other end of this state senate district. The Ithaca common council has voted to replace the police department in Ithaca with a new Ithaca Public Safety Committee, which would be made up of the current police officer staff, and they say that all those officers could stay on, it would just be a different style department. One of the members of the Ithaca commission that reviewed this new policy, was Richard Rivera, who was freed by the state parole board a year ago, after being convicted of shooting and killing a new York city police officer in 1981.
