O’Mara Endorsed By NFIB

September 11, 2020

From Senator Tom O’Mara:

The National Federation of Independent Businesses of New York (NFIB New York) pointed to O’Mara’s longstanding support of small businesses in making the endorsement. The group said their endorsements are based on positions on key small business issues including taxes, health care, workplace mandates, economic development, and regulatory issues.

NFIB New York State Director Greg Biryla said, “Across New York State, small businesses, and the local economies they support are on the brink. The pandemic has literally forced storefronts to close in every community and every neighborhood without warning and has left local entrepreneurs with little ability to plan their business’s future. The Empire State has proven a difficult place to start or grow a business for years, and that simply can’t continue. To recover our economy and our way of life, lawmakers in both houses from both parties must prioritize real solutions to help struggling small businesses. The state legislative incumbents and candidates endorsed by NFIB’s NY PAC have demonstrated their commitment to the small businesses in their communities and will be champions for an economic recovery that starts on the Main Streets across our state.” (see today’s full release: https://www.nfib.com/content/news/elections/nfibs-ny-pac-endorses-candidates-for-state-assembly-and-senate/)

O’Mara is a past recipient of NFIB New York’s “Guardian of Small Business Award.”

O’Mara said, “The COVID-19 economic shutdown has taken an enormous toll on New York’s small business sector and thousands of workers across the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions. Small business is the economic lifeline for these workers and so many local communities. I remain grateful for NFIB New York’s recognition of my ongoing commitment to their futures and, most importantly, I look forward to working together on the recovery and rebuilding effort facing all of us. Priority number one will be to stay focused on the upstate economy, upstate jobs, and the long-term economic security of upstate workers and their families. That means supporting policies and programs that strengthen our small businesses.”

NFIB New York recently gave O’Mara a 91% rating, the second-highest rating among all state senators, on its 2019-20202 legislative review of how state legislators addressed priority issues for small business owners across New York. O’Mara received the grade as part of the organization’s analysis of state legislative actions identified as priority issues by the state’s small business owners. O’Mara has consistently sponsored and strongly supported Senate legislation and other new laws and initiatives over the past several years aimed at turning around Upstate private-sector job growth through lower taxes, regulatory and other fiscal reforms, mandate relief, and a renewed commitment to private-sector job growth.

“I take great pride in being a strong and steady voice in the state Legislature for our small, independent businessmen and businesswomen,” said O’Mara. “The surest way to revitalize upstate communities is through private-sector job creation in small business, manufacturing and other key sectors of the economy.”
