Rose A. Carpenter, of Hornell

HORNELL-Rose A. Carpenter, 96, passed away unexpectedly Sunday (May 1, 2016) at her home on Center Street.

Born in Hornell on Oct. 11, 1919 she was a daughter of the late Angelo and Antonia (Picchiotti) Cavalletti. On June 5, 1944 she was married in Hornell to Arthur R. Carpenter, who predeceased her on Feb. 4, 1989 after 45 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her son, Robert Carpenter; her brother, August Cavalletti and her two sisters, Rena Florence and Elizabeth Lecceardone.

A lifelong resident of Hornell, Rose attended St. Ann’s School and assisted her late husband for 27 years in the operation of the former Main Tavern and Restaurant on Main St. in Hornell before she retired.

She was an avid bingo player and was a lifetime member of the Women of the Moose of the Hornell Moose Lodge No.210.

Her loving family includes her two daughters, Marcia (Pastor Phillip) Casterline and Connie (Peter) McDaniels all of Hornell; her daughter-in-law, Joanne Carpenter, also of Hornell; her eight grandchildren, Phyl Marie (Walter) Weister of Hampton, Ga., John (Stephanie) Casterline of Pittsburgh, Pa., Anthony Casterline of Charlotte, N.C., Bobby Carpenter of Virginia Beach, Va., Stacy (Brent) Roberts of Wellsville, Stephen Carpenter of Hornell, Angela (Pete) Barrett of Amherst and Peter (Lori) McDaniels of Hornell; several great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Anthony Cavalletti of Hornell; also several nieces and nephews and her beloved cat, her “baby,” Gray Bear.

The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. in Hornell is honored to serve the family of Rose A. Carpenter.

Calling hours are 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral and committal service will be held following calling hours at 1 p.m. Wednesday, with her son-in-law, Pastor Phillip Casterline officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to the Hornell Area Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, N.Y. 14843. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
