Smart School Initiative

October 8, 2014

There’s a statewide proposition on the ballot on November 4th: the Smart School Initiative. It calls for taking out a bond for 2 billion dollars, for students to get upgraded technology in classrooms statewide.

If passed, Alfred-Almond gets just over $600,000, Hornell would receive 2 million, Canisteo-Greenwood: about 1.5 million, and Arkport Central would get about half a million.

Governor Cuomo says the Smart School Initiative would put schools statewide on an equal playing field technologically.   Critics like the conservative think tank the empire center say the plan calls for too much spending, both now and later on, and that technology is quickly outmoded.
