Some Hornell Schools Test High for Lead in Water

December 7, 2016

HORNELL, NY – Not uncommon to schools in our area, Hornell was added to the list of schools with unacceptable levels of lead in their water. Superintendent Doug Wyant made the announcement at Wednesday night’s Board of Education meeting that Hornell has received the results of three of the five schools tested. Columbian school tested clean across the board, while Bryant school had 8 outlets unacceptable and the Junior/Senior High School had 11 outlets slightly contaminated.

“The funny part is,” said Wyant, “Is that outlets in the newer addition to the High School tested high for lead while the older section did not.” The board is still waiting on the results for the Intermediate School and North Hornell School. According to Wyant, a letter will be mailed to parents, guardians, and staff as early as next week about the problem and there is no need to panic as all of the outlets testing high have a sign posted and are not in use for consumption.
