STATEMENT FROM NYS DEMOCRATIC CHAIRMAN ON THE HOUSE GOP CONFERENCE CHAIR ELECTION
NASSAU COUNTY, NY: New York State Democratic Chairman Jay S. Jacobs has released the following statement:
“Elise Stefanik’s rise to leadership in the Republican Congressional Conference was propelled by her allegiance to Donald Trump, her support for the “Big Lie” that the presidential election was stolen, and her adherence to the most extreme policies of her Party. That is not who Elise Stefanik was when she first asked the voters of her district to support her for Congress. Opportunism and blind ambition have led her to turn her back on the Constitution and the principles upon which this nation was founded.
New York voters reward authenticity and punish those who, in seeking political gain, demonstrate a callous disregard for the values and principles of our democracy. Congresswoman Stefanik should celebrate her success now, as it will be short-lived in a state that has firmly rejected Donald Trump and all that he stands for. Like Icarus, she is flying too close to the sun and a precipitous plummet is soon to follow.”
