Steuben Co Emergency Services: Flash Flood Watch Until 5am Saturday

PRESS RELEASE
OCTOBER 29, 2021 17:00

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUES A FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR STEUBEN COUNTY UNTIL 5:00 A.M. SATURDAY OCTOBER 30TH. GIVEN THE RECENT HEAVY RAIN, STREAMS AND RIVERS ARE RUNNING HIGH. SMALLER CREEKS AND STREAMS COULD QUICKLY OVER-TOP THEIR BANKS WHERE HEAVY RAIN OCCURS. RESIDENTS SHOULD BE AWARE OF THE POTENTIAL FOR FLASH FLOODING AND PLAN ACCORDINGLY.

IF YOU LIVE NEAR A STREAM, CREEK OR RIVER BE AWARE OF WATER LEVELS AND LISTEN FOR ADDITIONAL FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS. BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION IF WARNINGS ARE ISSUED. EVACUATE EARLY ENOUGH TO AVOID BEING STRANDED ON FLOODED ROADWAYS. KNOW YOUR NEAREST EVACUATION ROUTE AND HOW TO GET TO HIGHER GROUND.

FLOODING COULD OCCUR ALMOST ANYWHERE WITHIN THE COUNTY SO MOTORISTS SHOULD USE EXTREME CAUTION ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS MORE DIFFICULT TO SEE DEBRIS IN THE ROADWAY. DO NOT DRIVE YOUR CAR THROUGH WATER THAT COVERS THE ROADWAY. USE CAUTION ON CITY AND VILLAGE STREETS AS LEAVES MAY CLOG STORM DRAINS CAUSING STREET FLOODING.

MONITOR NOAA WEATHER RADIO, TELEVISION, OR OUR “READY STEUBEN” MOBILE APP, FOR ADDITIONAL FLOOD STATEMENTS, ADVISORIES OR WARNINGS.
