Train Derails Near Letchworth State Park

State Senators George Borrelo and Pat Gallivan say that 13 box cars on a freight train derailed near Letchworth State Park.

“This morning we learned that 13 box cars on a Norfolk Southern freight train headed to Binghamton derailed in the hamlet of Hunt, Town of Portage, near Letchworth State Park in Livingston County. We were relieved to confirm that there were no injuries and no hazardous materials are involved.
“Local emergency management personnel are on the scene right now helping Norfolk Southern crews address the situation. We would like to thank those first responders who are tackling this difficult task and risking their own safety, as they routinely do, for the benefit of our communities. Those agencies include the Livingston County Department of Emergency Management, the Nunda Fire Department, the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, the New York State Department of Transportation and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. They have our deepest appreciation and support as they work to resolve this situation.”
