Hartsville, NY – The town of Hartsville agreed last night to accept the proposal by the village of Canisteo Fire Dept on a one year contract pending actual review of the document. They also stated that they will seriously consider in the future of joining a fire district with the village and town of Canisteo. Advantages of joining a district would be: the formation of a fire district board, and the Town of Hartsville will have a seat and a say in expenses and purchases. Currently under the contract agreement they either pay the fee, or decline services.
Kevin Sheen of Everpower Wind went over financial numbers for the board, and mentioned that Everpower would contribute to the cost of a fire district if created. Sheen reiterated that 50 megawatts produced would bring in $200,000 a year for the town/school district. He said that Everpower is still below recruitment levels to move forward. Currently they have 30 megawatt and 1000 acres of land committed, and that they would need twice that to proceed.
Also the town will be looking at hiring Hornell City attorney Joe Pelych as the new town attorney. One of the reasons given were that he is closer in location. Also Jim Perry will be introducing a local law on the enforcement of weight limits on local roads. They will have a public hearing on the matter but no time or date has been set.
Two appointments were made at last nights meeting; John Bowles as Deputy Town Clerk and John Giglio as Deputy Supervisor.
