Village of Canisteo Hears MEGA Energy Proposal

CANISTEO, NY – The Canisteo Village Board heard an energy proposal from the Municipal Electric and Gas Alliance (MEGA) about possibly opting into a Community Choice Aggregation Program Monday evening. MEGA is an aggregator of electricity, natural gas and renewable power. Its objective is to achieve the most competitive prices for electricity and natural gas for its members in order to minimize the cost of energy.

Representative Danielle McMullen, who had visited the city of Hornell’s Common Council meeting earlier this summer, explained the benefits if our entire region decides to participate. “Similar size regions in New York State have seen their utility bills reduced by as much as $10 a month after adopting into the program,” said McMullen. The board decided to give her an answer by next months meeting on whether they plan to proceed with the proposal. You can see her full presentation below in two parts:
