HORNELL, NY – Today’s doubleheader between the Hornell Steamers and the Sherrill Silversmiths has been postponed due to wet fields and forecasts for continued rain throughout the day.

The two teams are currently working on a make-up date.

Monday’s rainout vs. Dansville will now be played on July 9th at Maple City Park. First pitch of the doubleheader will be at 3 p.m.

From Sheriff Jim Allard: “Deputy Cody Henry responded to a person not breathing in Woodhull and administered CPR and utilized his AED until EMS arrived. The person resumed a pulse and was successfully transported to a medical facility for recovery. Deputy Henry has only been on solo patrol for a little over a month. Deputy Cody Henry displayed excellent assessment skills and performed as trained, saving a life. Great job Deputy Henry!!”

PALMESANO RIPS LABOR DEPT. FOLLOWING COMPTROLLER’S AUDIT
Urges aggressive action to recoup lost funds and renews call to provide unemployment relief to small businesses
Statement from Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C-Corning)

“In an audit completed by Comptroller DiNapoli it was revealed that the state Labor Department paid out $11 billion in fraudulent unemployment claims during COVID. For months, I joined my legislative colleagues in calling out the Labor Department for not answering calls for help from the unemployed, with many constituents going through our offices to obtain their benefits. The Labor Department systematically failed thousands of New Yorkers who were newly unemployed due to the COVID-mandated lockdowns put on by the Cuomo and Hochul administrations.

“The Labor Department also failed to provide proper oversight of itself, which is why the Legislature must intervene as a co-equal branch of government to get to the bottom of this fraud and take aggressive action to recoup this staggering loss of taxpayer dollars. Under Labor Commissioner Reardon, the department has been in disarray. Not only did she sign on to the disastrous farm laborer decision to lower the overtime threshold from 60 to 40 hours, which will devastate our family farms in New York, but we have now learned of this monumental loss of taxpayer dollars. It is completely unacceptable.

“In light of the Comptroller’s report, New Yorkers also learned that we still owe the federal government $7.7 billion in jobless payments. Many of my colleagues in the Legislature and I, in addition to the business community, have called on Gov. Hochul to use federal surplus dollars that New York obtained through COVID aid to help pay down this debt, as many other states have rightfully done. However, she chose to stick small-business owners with the bill and a surcharge.

“Small-business owners in our area and around the state have been operating at incredibly tight margins due to the COVID lockdown measures put into place by the administration, which decimated so many local, small businesses. They have also been shouldered with increased unemployment insurance payments, further impacting their operations. The success of our small businesses is critical to improving the quality of life of families in our communities, so it is unconscionable that Gov. Hochul would not take bold, broad and aggressive action to support them so they can stay and grow here. Instead, the administration’s continued inaction will just further contribute to driving more of them out of business.

“Over 350,000 New Yorkers left our state in 2020 alone, with even more continuing to follow every day. Our current course is unsustainable. Continued fraud, wasteful spending and misuse of taxpayer dollars, coupled with the inability to empathize with and support our hardworking small-business owners by this governor, will only further accelerate the exodus of more New York businesses, jobs and residents. We need action and accountability, now.”

BATH, NY – Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on July 22, 2021, deputies of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested Tucker A. Parmelee, age 23, of Sutherland Road, Penn Yan, New York, following an investigation of alleged possession of cannabis by an inmate and an assault of an officer.

It is alleged that Mr. Parmelee secreted an amount of cannabis in his person when being booked into the Steuben County Jail, and then attempted to smoke it while in his cell. It is further alleged that when being removed from his cell for his safety, he intentionally struck a Correction Officer, causing injury.

Parmelee was charged with Assault in the Second Degree and Promoting Prison Contraband in the First Degree, both Class D Felonies. Mr. Parmelee was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and returned to the Steuben County Jail. The officer was treated by medical staff and released.

BATH – The Steuben County Public Health Department is holding a COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the Jasper-Troupsburg Junior/Senior High School gym on Monday, May 17 from 4 – 6 PM. Both Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines will be offered at this walk-in clinic.

Pfizer is available for anyone age 12 and older. A parent or guardian must accompany children under the age of 18 and sign a consent form at the clinic. Johnson & Johnson is available for anyone age 18 and older. Proof of date of birth is needed for anyone seeking vaccination.

“We have utilized mapping to see where pockets of COVID vaccines could be needed, and the Jasper-Troupsburg area was one area,” said Public Health Director, Darlene Smith. “We are grateful for the partnership with the Jasper-Troupsburg Central School District to bring two types of COVID vaccines to the area and hope that many will utilize this walk-in clinic.”

All clinic attendees must wear appropriate face coverings and will be expected to wait 15-30 minutes after vaccination for observation. Attendees should wear short sleeves or appropriate clothing for vaccination.

Residents currently under isolation or quarantine at the time of the clinic due to a positive COVID-19 test result or as a contact to a positive are not eligible to attend the clinic.
