HORNELL, NY – Hornell Police did a morning traffic stop on Center Street on Wednesday morning, and charged Eugene Poteat Jr, 46, Bath, and Steven Hughes, 39, Hornell, with one count each of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 5th Degree, and Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the 5th Degree. According to Hornell Police Investigator Tom Aini, the two suspects have been involved in selling meth.
Hornell Police also say, that Steven Hughes tried to destroy evidence (for attempting to conceal and destroy meth after being stopped and confronted by Officer J.R. Emo.
Both Poteat and Hughes were taken to Steuben County Court in Bath, for Centralized Arraignment.

Katherine A. Hoyt, of Hornell
HORNELL-Katherine A. Hoyt, 96, of 24 Ransom St., Hornell, died early Monday morning (June 10, 2019) at St. James Mercy Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Elmira on July 8, 1922, she was the daughter of Charles & Levenia (Artlip) Krakat. She has resided in Hornell for most of her life.
Katherine was a 1942 graduate of Hornell High School. She had been employed for about 25 years at the former Kieser Glove Factory and later worked for the Marion Rohr Corporation for an additional 25 years. She was a Member of Christ Episcopal Church.
She was married in 1978 to Lloyd “Chet” Hoyt who died in 1999.
Katherine is survived by several nieces & nephews; her dear friends, Mary Lou Markham & Jack Generalli along with her loving caregivers.
At Katherine’s request there will be no calling hours. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.
Katherine’s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name be made to St. Ann’s Academy, 41 Genesee St., Hornell, NY or the Hornell Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, NY 14843.

ARKPORT, NY – The Hornellsville Town Board held a special ceremony before the regular meeting for long time highway employee Mike Bracken. “He’s been with us since June of 1979,” said Highway Superintendent Jason Emo, “We thought it would be appropriate to recognize that and present him with a plague.”
Emo added that Bracken still has no plans to retire in the near future, “I think he plans on coming to work as long as his wife will let him,” Emo chuckled. Emo has 4 employees working under him as Highway Superintendent for the Town of Hornellsville.
Arkport Firefighter Bill Robinson was also at the meeting and laid out the schedule for this year’s Arkport Summerfest and request an annual donation. According to Robinson, this year’s theme will be “Arkport Summerfest fights Cancer of all Colors,” and will kick off the weekend of the 12th through the 14th in July.
Some new things will also be in store for the event such as live music on Friday and Saturday night instead of a DJ and there will be a parade on Saturday morning starting 11am and fireworks that evening at 10pm. Robinson encourages everyone to come out and show support against the fight against cancer.
And finally Town Clerk Sharon Ames reported that the dog licenses keep pouring in as a result of the new dog census, with 155 sold last month alone bringing in $1225 in revenue. “To date, we have sold a total of 244 new dog licenses, and have 944 active licenses in the system,” said Ames.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Tom Reed put out a statement, saying that he’s a big advocate for factories and manufacturing. Reed listed his pro-factory laws, including legislation reed got passed, that helped companies, such as Phase Innovation in Alfred.
Reed also says that he wants House Speaker Pelosi to take up NAFTA reforms for a vote, as Reed says, 21,000 factory jobs in upstate, are at stake.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY, NY – The Livingston County Sheriff’s office has charged 31 year old Nathan Osmin, of Canisteo, for allegedly having 2.6 grams of fentanyl in his car, with the intent to sell it. Sheriff Tom Dougherty says that Nathan Osmin was charged, after being pulled over on 390, in Livingston County.

Canisteo Village Police report that they arrested a Juvenile whose accused of Making a Terroristic Threat. What the alleged threat was about, was not explained, but officials say that the juvenile will appear in Family Court at a later date, and ticketed and released.
CANISTEO: Shirley E. Marlatt, 78, of Third St. passed away peacefully at home Sunday afternoon (June 9, 2019) following a brief illness.
Shirley was born July 30, 1940 in Rathbone to the late William and Evelyn (Horton) Houghtaling. On December 24, 1973, in Adrian, she married Charles O. Marlatt who survives and resides in Canisteo.
Shirley had worked and retired from St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell, as a Secretary aide in the Mental Health Dept. Prior to working at St. James, she had worked for the former Loohn’s Cleaners in Hornell for many years.
Shirley enjoyed vacationing and shopping. One of her many interests involved collecting anything that involved “wolves” as a theme and enjoyed painting ceramics. Her main enjoyment was her family. She cherished the time spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren very much.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children: Willard (Jody) Cole of Canisteo, Sherry (Porfirio “Dave” Vasquez) Osmin of Canisteo, Patricia (David) Owen of Woodhull, Cathy Alger (Jeff Witt) of Greenwood, Elwin Marlatt (Denise Curry) of Canisteo and Michael Fox of AZ. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Edward Black of Coudersport, Pa. as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Shirley was predeceased by grandsons: Nicholas Osmin, Richard Trumbul and Earle Houghtaling, III, a sister Darla Black and son-in-law, Ear;e Houghtaling, Jr.
The family will receive friends from 1-3 and 6-8 pm Saturday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo, where funeral and committal services will take place immediately following calling hours at 8:00 pm.
