The Hornell Steamers Beat The Syracuse Salt Cats Last Night

June 10, 2026

Behind a dominant pitching performance and a timely fourth-inning rally, the Hornell Steamers earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Syracuse Salt Cats on Tuesday evening at Maple City Park. The win snapped a brief skid for the Steamers and showcased one of the club’s strongest all-around pitching efforts of the young season. Syracuse struck first in the opening inning when Mike Giamartino delivered an RBI single to score Oliver Rey, giving the Salt Cats an early 1-0 lead. Despite allowing three hits in the frame, Hornell starter Ty Vogel (SUNY Niagara) settled in quickly and never allowed another run. Vogel was outstanding over five innings, scattering six hits while striking out six and walking just one. The right-hander worked out of several jams and kept the Steamers within striking distance until the offense found its rhythm. Hornell finally broke through in the bottom of the fourth. Michael Duncan (Eastern Mennonite) ignited the rally with a one-out double before Emmett Heath (Pomona Pitzer) lined a run-scoring double into the gap in right-center field to tie the game at 1-1. Moments later, Taylor Joseph (North Park) delivered a clutch RBI single up the middle, plating Heath and giving the Steamers their first lead of the night at 2-1.
That would prove to be all the offense Hornell needed.

The Steamers collected seven hits on the evening, led by Will Parker (Pomona Pitzer) who finished 2-for-3, Heath went 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and the game-tying RBI, while Duncan added a double and scored the eventual winning run. After Vogel’s strong start, Alex Spezzano (Hobart) was nearly untouchable out of the bullpen to earn the save. The right-hander allowed just one hit while striking out five. He struck out the side in the 6th and two in the 7th. As a staff, Hornell pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts while allowing just one run. Defensively, the Steamers erased a potential seventh-inning threat when Rylan Stokes threw out Hector Gonzalez attempting to steal second base. Hornell (2-3) was leading 1-0 in the nightcap of the doubleheader when thunderstorms rolled in and forced the game to be suspended. The Steamers travel to Gensee for their first battle with the Rapids on Thursday. First pitch at Houghton is at 7 p.m.

Langworthy: FEMA Is Giving $60.5 Million Dollars To Jasper-Troupsburg

June 9, 2026

FROM REP. NICK LANGWORTHY: Congressman Nick Langworthy today announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded $60,493,661.51 to the Jasper-Troupsburg Central School District to rebuild and restore facilities devastated by the remnants of Tropical Storm Fred.

The funding will support the replacement of the district’s Junior/Senior High School and Administrative Offices, athletic facilities, parking lots, sidewalks, and other campus infrastructure damaged by catastrophic flooding that inundated the school campus and displaced students from their classrooms. The award also includes significant hazard mitigation funding to relocate critical facilities out of the floodplain and better protect the district from future disasters.

“Tropical Storm Fred caused devastating damage to this community and school district, only to be ravaged again a short time later by Tropical Storm Debby,” said Congressman Langworthy. “I was on the ground touring the damage and meeting with local officials and residents, and I made a promise that I would not give up until we found a lasting solution that would not only allow them to rebuild, but to try to protect them from the effects of a future storm. This funding marks a transformational milestone that has been the result of a strong partnership and collaboration at every level of government.”

“On behalf of the Jasper-Troupsburg Central School District, I want to thank Congressman Langworthy for his steadfast support and advocacy throughout this process, along with FEMA, our local, state, and federal partners, our Board of Education, and the many individuals whose dedication and persistence made this day possible,” said Jasper-Troupsburg Superintendent Jason Oliver. “While this announcement marks a tremendous milestone, our work is not yet complete. There are still important local decisions ahead as we move from planning to construction. But today gives our students, families, faculty, staff, and community tremendous optimism because the best days for Jasper-Troupsburg are certainly ahead of us. Together, we are building not just a new school, but a stronger future for generations to come.”

The funding covers the replacement of the district’s approximately 85,000-square-foot Junior/Senior High School and Administrative Offices building, replacement of the track and multi-purpose court, restoration of damaged campus infrastructure, and repairs to additional facilities across the campus. FEMA determined the damage to the school building and athletic facilities was so extensive that replacement was warranted.

The project also includes more than $5 million in hazard mitigation funding, allowing the district to rebuild outside the floodplain and incorporate resiliency measures designed to reduce future flood risk.

The federal award is being provided through FEMA’s Public Assistance Program under a major disaster declaration for Tropical Storm Fred. The total project cost is currently estimated at $67.2 million, with FEMA funding provided at a 90 percent federal cost share.

Congressman Langworthy concluded, “The people of this community have shown tremendous independence, resiliency, and strength throughout this entire multi-year battle. This investment marks a new beginning for the faculty, students, and families who will soon have a new modern, resilient building and the confidence that learning will not be interrupted by a future storm. This is what effective, responsive government looks like, and I want to thank everyone who played a role in making this victory possible.”

Tenney Votes For Pro-ICE, Pro-Border Patrol Legislation

June 10, 2026

Washington, DC — Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24), today supported the Secure America Act, legislation that provides critical funding for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), border security technology, and immigration enforcement operations to help secure America’s borders and protect communities across the nation. The Secure America Act provides $69.55 billion for CBP, ICE, HSI, and other related programs in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through the Fiscal Year (FY) 2029. This funding includes over $31 billion in funding for ICE operations through FY29, including funding for enforcement personnel, detention and removal operations, transportation, technology modernization, and coordination with state and local law enforcement. The legislation also provides over $9 billion for Border Patrol agents and CBP operations, including the hiring, training, and equipping of additional personnel, advanced screening technology, anti-fentanyl enforcement efforts, and border surveillance capabilities through FY29. Additionally, the bill includes over $7 billion in supplemental funding for HSI to continue its work on child trafficking interdiction through FY29. The legislation ensures Border Patrol and ICE have stable funding through the remainder of President Trump’s term and strengthens efforts to combat illegal immigration, fentanyl trafficking, and transnational criminal activity.

“Supporting the men and women of Border Patrol and ICE should be common sense,” said Congresswoman Tenney. “The Secure America Act gives our frontline law enforcement officers the resources they need to keep our borders secure, stop the flow of fentanyl into our communities, and enforce our nation’s immigration laws. President Trump has made incredible progress restoring order at the border, and Congress must ensure that progress continues. The alternative is a return to the failed policies that allowed millions of illegal immigrants to enter our country, fueled deadly fentanyl trafficking, and put American communities at risk. Americans deserve a safe, secure border and a government that puts their security first.”

Senator Gillibrand: I Want More Oversight Of The Prediction Markets

June 9, 2026

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), along with 15 of her Senate colleagues, called on the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to strengthen oversight and enforcement of prediction markets. This comes as the CFTC considers comments on its proposed rulemaking regarding prediction market regulation. “Financial markets must be fair, transparent, and not tilted in favor of those with privileged access,” said Senator Gillibrand. “The CFTC must implement strong, commonsense guardrails to protect consumers, prevent insider trading, and hold prediction market platforms to high standards of integrity.” The senators wrote to CFTC Chairman Michael Selig: “These markets have a significantly higher proportion of retail participants than traditional derivatives markets, heightening customer protection concerns. At the same time, increasing reports of potential misconduct—including insider trading and market manipulation—have drawn increasing scrutiny from the broader public and from Congress. It is critical that the Commission provide additional guidance and regulation to address these concerns.”

“Given the dynamic and growing nature of the prediction markets, it is crucial that the Commission provide clear guidance to DCMs, DCOs, and other market participants to prevent the listing of event contracts susceptible to manipulation or abuse and to focus the industry’s efforts on listing contracts with clear economic use cases, rather than purely speculative offerings with limited hedging value,” the senators continued. “In addition, the Commission must prioritize its examination and review of DCMs and DCOs to ensure that they have appropriate policies, procedures, and resources to comply with this guidance—and in fact are doing so. Finally, the Commission should work to require DCMs and DCOs to ensure that the terms and conditions of event contracts are clear and designed to minimize potential areas for dispute as to resolution and payout.”

In addition to Senator Gillibrand, the letter was signed by Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Michael Bennet (D-CO), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE), Cory Booker (D-NJ), Dick Durbin (D-IL), John Fetterman (D-PA), John Hickenlooper (D-CO), Andy Kim (D-NJ), Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Raphael Warnock (D-GA), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Ben Ray Luján (D-NM), and Chris Coons (D-DE).

Senator Gillibrand continues to push for regulatory clarity in the rapidly growing prediction market sector. In April, she introduced the Prediction Market Act of 2026 to put regular Americans first by banning elected officials from trading on prediction markets, establishing a transparent regulatory framework, and creating strong safeguards for retail investors.
