Phyllis M. Argentieri, of Hornell

HORNELL-Phyllis M. Argentieri, 80, of High St., entered into rest early Sunday morning (June 24, 2018) at St. James Hospital in Hornell, after a long illness.

Born in North Hornell on Sept. 22, 1937, she was a daughter of the late H. Neil and Thelma (Stevens) Bennett. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her infant sister, Kay Bennett and her brother, William “Billy” Bennett.

A lifelong resident of Hornell, Phyllis was a graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1955.

She was previously employed as a telephone operator for AT&T in Hornell before she became employed at the former McHenry’s Jewelers in Hornell. Eventually she was employed for many years at St. James Mercy Hospital in the Medical Records Department and retired from the Hornell City School District as a teacher’s aide at the Hornell High School.

Phyllis was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Hornell and enjoyed bowling, playing cards and doing crafts, especially sewing.

Her loving family includes her husband of 60 years, James Argentieri, who she married in Hornell on Sept. 30, 1957; her three sons, Patrick (Sandy) Argentieri of Livonia, Mark (Colleen) Argentieri of Hornell and Jimmy Argentieri of Hornell; her seven grandchildren, Patrick (Julie) Argentieri, Kayleigh Argentieri, Emily Argentieri, Eric (Nicolette) Argentieri, Daniel (Alyssa) Argentieri, Johnathan Argentieri and Wyatt Argentieri; her sister, Betty (William) Pauly of Hornell; also her best friend, Joy Towner of Canisteo; as well as many nieces, nephews, in-laws and cousins.

The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell is honored to serve the family of Phyllis M. Argentieri.

To honor her wishes there will be no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to join her family at Christ Episcopal Church, 6 Center St., Hornell where a funeral service will be celebrated in her memory at 10:30 a.m. Saturday (June 30, 2018), with the Rev. Thomas Gramley and the Rev. John Andrews officiating.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to either, Christ Episcopal Church. P.O. Box 336, Hornell, N.Y. 14843 or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, Tenn. 38101-9908. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the church on Saturday.
