On July 16th of this year, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program – Education, or SNAP-Ed, announced, that the program would end in New York State, after cuts to federal funding. The program’s final day in the state will be Thursday, September 25th. Justine Patterson, project director for SNAP-Ed New York in the Southern Finger Lakes Region, said that the decision was not anticipated and they recognize the impact this may have on the communities they serve and that the program has made a difference in the Southern Tier by teaching and promoting healthy eating, physical activity, and food resource management among SNAP-eligible individuals.
