State of Emergency for Steuben County- 1201 EDT

Evacuation of the Hamlet of Woodhull, Jasper are being evacuated.

Steuben County has declared a state of emergency due to flash flooding caused by the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby moving across the region.

As of 12PM Friday, there are multiple roads that are covered with water or otherwise impassable. The county’s emergency operations center is handling dozens of emergency calls for assistance at this time.
The town of Greenwood has also declared a local state of emergency, prohibiting all traffic.
People are being urged to stay off the roads until further notice, so that emergency vehicles and public works can respond to the emergency situation. People should not travel unless absolutely necessary.

The county Office of Emergency Management says people should not call 911 unless there is a true emergency.

The county-wide State of Emergency will remain in effect until further notice.
