BATH – Steuben County Election Commissioners Kelly Penziul and Veronica Olin announced the Board of Elections will offer extended hours during the two weeks prior to the Nov. 2 General Election. The Board of Elections office, located in the Steuben County Annex at 20 E. Morris St., Bath, will be open for extended hours on the following days and times:
Tuesday, Oct. 19 – 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Thursday, Oct. 21 – 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 23 – 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 26 – 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Thursday, Oct. 28 – 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 30 – 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
The extended hours at the Board of Elections are intended to assist voters who may need to apply for an absentee ballot. Those eligible for absentee ballots include: Any registered voter * who will be absent from the county due to occupation, education, vacation * has a permanent physical disability or illness that would not allow them to go to the polls Election Day * or is a caregiver for someone who is ill or physically disabled.
Additionally, a voter may also use the ‘temporary illness’ reason if they are unable to appear due to risk of contracting or spreading a communicable disease like COVID-19. The ballot may be voted at the office the same day it is picked up or returned to the Board of Elections, early voting site or poll site location by close of polls on Election Day. If ballots are mailed they must be postmarked by Nov. 2 A voter can apply in person for an absentee ballot at the Board of Elections, before Nov. 2.
All other absentee ballot requests must be received by the Board of Elections no later than Oct. 18. For the Nov. 2 General Election only, a registered voter may request an absentee ballot on the state portal at https://absenteeballot.elections.ny.gov before October 18. A resident must have been registered to vote by Oct. 8 (in person or postmarked) in order to be eligible to vote on Nov. 2 in the General Election. Absentee ballot applications and voter registration forms are available by mail, email or may be downloaded from the Board of Elections website at
https://www.steubencony.org/boe .
