BATH, NY – Steuben County officials are working to come up with ways to come up with ways to prevent the high cost of fuel for county vehicles, from getting out of control. Steuben County Manager Jack Wheeler says, fuel for the county trucks and vehicles is now at $100,000 dollars a month.
The county public works department discussed possible solutions recently with county lawmaker Gary Swackhamer and others. Officials say that the county DPW needs about $450,000 for fuel to get through the rest of the year. However, officials say they don’t want to scrap any upcoming county road projects, as the money for many of those will be coming in from the State’s CHIPS, consolidated highway improvement fund.
