March 16, 2021

From The Steuben County Sheriffs Dept:

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports outstanding support and assistance rendered by the Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit during recent enforcement activity. The K-9 Unit successfully assisted other area police agencies on three occasions recently. K-9 Knapp, and his partner Deputy Butler, assisted the Village of Bath Police Department on February 18th, 2021, during a vehicle stop. K-9 Knapp alerted to a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine, valued at approximately $2,400, which resulted in an arrest for the Class B felony of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree.

K-9 Twiggy, and his partner Deputy Nybeck, assisted the Village of Bath Police Department on March 7th, 2021, during a vehicle stop. K-9 Twiggy alerted to a quantity of suspected crack cocaine, which resulted in an arrest for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree.

K-9 Daimon, and his partner Sgt. Shutt, assisted the New York State Police on March 10th, 2021, during a vehicle stop. K-9 Daimon alerted to a quantity of suspected marijuana, crystal methamphetamine, and a large quantity of mushrooms containing Psilocybin, which is a controlled substance and a hallucinogen. This also resulted in an arrest for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell in the Third Degree, a Class B felony, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree, a Class C felony, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, as well as other misdemeanor charges.

These examples demonstrate the critical role the K-9 Unit plays in drug enforcement within our county. It is also an example of how specialized units like the K-9 Unit enhance interagency cooperation, and serve as an asset to all our local law enforcement partners. Great job Daimon, Knapp and Twiggy!
