BATH, NY – Three Steuben County deputies were credited with saving the life of an Erwin woman in early July. Sheriff Dave Cole says that deputies David Updyke, Shawn Shutt and Brooke Payne, saved someone who was suffering from an opoid overdose.
“Updyke and Payne correctly assessed the unidentified person as suffering from an opioid overdose and administered Naloxone, with Sgt. Shawn Shutt assisting and continuing the appropriate treatment,” said county spokesperson Mary Perham. “Cole noted both Payne and Updyke were on overtime duty, and Shutt was supervising a DWI patrol in the Corning area, adding their correct response saved the life of the overdose victim”.
