Hornellsville Town Update

January 9th, 2018

ARKPORT, NY – At Tuesday night’s first official town board meeting of the year in Hornellsville, six new members were sworn in by Town Justice Rich Scavo. Dan Broughton officially took over as Town Supervisor; Sharon Ames as Town Clerk and Elizabeth VanScoter as Deputy Town Clerk; Jason Emo as Highway Supervisor; and David Oaks and Ron Kennell to board seats. Also, Jim Giglio was appointed Deputy Town Supervisor.

Planning Board head Joe Dick announced that they finally have a quorum on the committee and decision making will soon follow. First task will be updating the fee structure to be more in line with other similar communities. Also they will be working on a comprehensive plan for the town, with the last one being done as long ago as 1962. And lastly, the planning board will be reviewing the town’s wind laws. Wind laws are also being revisited in Hartsville as of late last year.

Marguerite Wells from Invenergy was also present and gave an update on the Canisteo Wind Project. Invenergy is developing the project on approximately 25,000 acres of private land it is leasing in the towns of Cameron, Canisteo, Jasper, Greenwood, Troupsburg, and West Union. According to Wells, Invenery only plans on running transmission lines on Hornellsville land. As of now, no wind turbines are scheduled to be erected.

And lastly, the town agreed to purchase a 40’ lift in conjunction with the village of North Hornell. The $6000 cost will be split equally between them and the unit will be stored in a bay in North Hornell. Both municipalities said there is a need for such equipment for replacing street lighting, putting up and taking down banners, ect.
