State Assembly candidate Richard Milne, who is running for the Bill Nojay seat in the assembly, sent out this official campaign statement this morning:
HONEOYE FALLS, NY (May 26, 2016) – Richard B. Milne (R), currently Mayor of Honeoye Falls, NY, has announced that he will seek the 133rd Assembly District seat in the November 2016 general election. A lifelong registered Republican, Milne will be circulating nominating petitions to allow him to challenge the incumbent in a primary this coming September.
After serving the Honeoye Falls Village Board of Trustees for five years, Milne was elected Mayor in 2005 and has served three 4-year terms. Milne is the immediate Past President of NYCOM (New York State Conference of Mayors), an organization that serves cities and villages across the State. He is the first Monroe County Village mayor to serve in this capacity in the 108 year history of the organization.
“Service to my community, my county, and my region is a personal devotion, and it would be an honor and privilege to dedicate myself to the residents of the 133rd Assembly District,” said Milne. His public service history includes 17 years in Village government; over 20 years of active duty as a firefighter in Honeoye Falls, 4 of which he served as an Officer of the Department; and 3 years as a BLS Medic in the Honeoye Falls-Mendon Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
“I’ve always believed in volunteerism, but once I became a father, I realized that I was driven to make my community stronger and better – for our children – and for theirs,” Milne said.
“That mission led me to my current role as Mayor, where I’ve placed an emphasis on long term planning and open transparent communication” he continued. Milne says the last decade has shown him the need to apply the same principles to State government.
“I believe the residents of the 133rd District need a representative that will focus on New York’s long term sustainability and growth. Throughout my many years in business development, I have watched our Empire State lose ground year after year. Upstate citizens seem to have a lesser voice in Albany but bear the greater burden. It’s time for a change,” Milne said.
Milne says the 133rd District includes some of the State’s most significant cultural and natural resources, and is especially suited for targeted development of high tech businesses while continuing to bolster a strong agricultural focus. He cited his ability to garner support from fellow elected officials as a strength that will benefit residents. His work on the Executive Committee at NYCOM earned the respect of fellow Mayors who elected him to serve as President in 2015. In addition, he’s been twice selected to serve as President of the Monroe County Mayors’ Association.
Milne lives in Honeoye Falls with his wife, Mary Lou, and has three adult children.
