FROM NYSP: On September 12, 2024, troopers from SP Wayland responded to a motorcycle versus a car on State Route 63 in the town of Wayland. A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2007 Chappy Yamaha motorcycle operated by an 18-year-old male was traveling southbound on State Route 63 when it passed an uninvolved vehicle in a no-passing zone. The motorcycle struck a 2015 Kia Sorento traveling northbound, operated by Helen Bertalon, age 73, of Dansville, NY, head-on, causing the 18-year-old to be ejected from the motorcycle. Bertalon was transported by Springwater-Wayland ambulance to UR Medicine Noyes Hospital for minor injuries. The 18-year-old was pronounced deceased at the scene.
