FROM THE STEUBEN COUNTY OFFICE OF EMERGENCY SERVICES: 

The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for…Southwestern Steuben County in central New York…* Until 1015 PM EDT.  * At 713 PM EDT, Emergency management reported thunderstorms producing heavy rain, causing water over the roadways of State Routes 36, 248, and 417. Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen. Flash flooding is already occurring.  HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.   SOURCE…Emergency management reported.IMPACT…Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.  * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include…Hornell, Canisteo, Woodhull, Jasper, Troupsburg, Arkport, Greenwood, Hartsville, South Dansville, North Hornell, Buena Vista, West Greenwood, Young Hickory and Willeyville.  PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.  Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.
