Hornell has plans with the New York State DOT for changes to Route 36 between Hornell and County Route 66. It’s an over $80 million dollar project. This was discussed at the Monday night Hornell Common Council meeting. Brian Kelly from the New York State DOT says, the plans call for the following:
40 more street lights on Route 36 going from Hornell into the northern end of the Hornell plaza area.
A multi-use path on the side of the road. The bike trail will go as far as Route 66. Plans are for bicycle riders/pedestrians, tbe protected by a guardrail. “There will be a pedestrian bridge north of the Hornell Plaza,” Brian Kelly said.
Phase 1 will be work, going from Adsit Street to just north of Route 66 near Simmons-Rockwell. There will be a roundabout built near Simmons-Rockwell, near the Route 36/66 interchange.
Phase 2 will be work, going from Adsit Street to Cass Street.
Other parts of the project includes: highway pavement, drainage, lighting for the pedestrian trail and sidewalks.
This project, will go to bid in August of this year.
The council voted for this project unanimously.
