Statement From The Steuben County D.A.’s Office – RE: Bath Man Found Guilty

FROM THE STEUBEN COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEYS OFFICE:  Bath, New York Man Convicted of Rape in the Third Degree After Baiting a Minor on Social Media Following a Jury Trial
Darrell Towsley, 24, of Bath, was found guilty by a Steuben County Jury on October 30, 2025, of Rape in the Third Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The jury found that Towsley met a 16-year-old girl on Snapchat and on May 15, 2024, had sexual intercourse after he provided her with marijuana.
Deputy District Attorney Joan Merry tried the case for the People, the Defendant was represented by Assistant Public Defender, Renee Sutton.
Deputy District Attorney Merry praised the victim for showing courage in testifying against Towsley in open court and the hard work of the Bath Village Police Department to make sure justice happened in this case.
Towsley is set to be sentenced in January 2026.Towsley is currently in the Steuben County Jail awaiting sentencing.
