April 5, 2026

There was another fatal bus crash in Western New York. State Police say it happened in the Monroe County Town of Irondequoit Thursday night. Troopers say the bus driver was a 60 year old male who was pronounced dead at Strong Memorial. The state police say it was likely caused by a medical issue the bus driver was apparently having at the time of the accident.

This is the second bus crash in Western New York in a year. There was also a bus crash in the Genesee County Town of Pembroke on August 22, 2025.

FROM THE NYSP: The New York State Police are investigating a fatal one-vehicle crash that occurred on State Route 590 in the town of Irondequoit, Monroe County. On April 2, 2026, at approximately 6:05 p.m., State Police responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on State Route 590. Upon arrival, Troopers observed a 2022 Honda Odyssey off the roadway in a ditch on the east shoulder. The operator and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 60-year-old, was found unresponsive at the scene. Emergency personnel from the Irondequoit Fire Department and EMS rendered aid before transporting him to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The preliminary investigation determined that the 60-year-old was traveling northbound on State Route 590 when he experienced a suspected medical event, causing him to become unresponsive. The vehicle initially drifted onto the west shoulder, struck a concrete barrier, then crossed the roadway and exited onto the east shoulder, where it collided with multiple trees. The investigation remains ongoing.
