STATEMENT FROM ZIFF, ELMIRA ATTORNEY, CHRISTINE SONSIRE: “The family of Khloe Beckhorn filed a lawsuit today against Greater Southern Tier BOCES and Guthrie Corning Hospital following Beckhorn’s unexpected death on October 6, 2025.
At the time of her death, Beckhorn was a 17-year-old honors student at Corning-Painted Post High School in Corning, New York. On the morning of October 6, she took a bus from the high school to the GST BOCES Coopers Campus, where she was enrolled in a Culinary Arts course. “The past nine months have been an absolute blur,” said Kassandra Beckhorn, Khloe’s mom. ‘Not a day goes by that our family doesn’t mourn her loss.’ Shortly after arriving at approximately 9:15 a.m., Beckhorn developed shortness of breath, dizziness, faintness, sweating and blurred vision. Classmates described her as pale and clearly very ill. Although Beckhorn told her instructor how she was feeling, she did not receive nursing care until approximately 11:00 a.m. At that time, the BOCES nurse documented that Beckhorn was “short of breath, dizzy and faint” with altered vision and a markedly elevated blood pressure of 165/88. Despite these symptoms, he instructed her to rest, drink fluids and return to the high school by bus with the other students. Beckhorn’s condition continued to worsen. She remained dizzy, had severe vision problems and reported having no strength. BOCES staff contacted her mother shortly before the regular dismissal time and told her that Khloe was dizzy and might want to come home. No ambulance or emergency medical evaluation was arranged.”
STATEMENT FROM THE GREATER SOUTHERN TIER BOCES: “Our school community continues to keep the student’s family, friends, classmates, and all those affected by this loss in our thoughts. we remain committed to fostering a safe, supportive, and respectful environment for all students and staff and to working collaboratively with families and our community.
Given the legal nature of this matter, we cannot comment on specific allegations.”
Wlea News has also reached out to the Guthrie attorney, but we have not heard back from the attorney as of yet. As soon as we do, we will post that statement online and broadcast it on the radio as well.
