A New Van, For The Hornell Fire Dept

November 15, 2022

HORNELL, NY – From Deputy Mayor Jessica Cleveland:

The City of Hornell Fire Department has received an upgrade to its fleet with the recent addition of Ford Transit Van: A-110. The new rig replaces the fly car to provide full Advance Life Support (ALS) services to the Maple City and the entire Canisteo Valley. This vehicle, like the A-111 and A-115 before it, was obtained through the City’s leasing program which continues to be beneficial in maintaining safe, cost-controlled vehicles for public safety.

“As recently seen with the police department, the leasing program has been very successful for the City. The fly car accrued a substantial amount of mileage and wear and tear as it served as paramedic intercept for the City of Hornell and the surrounding communities. When we looked to replace it, we took a forward looking, in-depth look at the needs of our department and it made sense to go with the transit van. This all-wheel drive vehicle is sleeker, nimbler and will provide the same level of EMS support as the full rig. It’s more efficient and provides what’s needed to serve the community’s growing needs,” stated Mayor John Buckley.

The addition brings a total number of vehicles to 7, with 6 other full ambulances, and the timing couldn’t be better. “Call volume continues to increase and it’s not unusual to have several ambulances out at a time whether it’s here in town, taking a transfer to another facility, or providing support to a call in another municipality with declining emergency medical service volunteerism,” noted Chief Brzozowski. “With its smaller size, this rig can get to those on the smaller, more narrow streets in Hornell easier and the all-wheel drive system keeps our medics and patients safer while navigating some of the steep hills or in snowy or slick conditions,” continued Brzozowski.

The new vehicle was recently outfitted to match the updated white ambulances with the Hornell Fire Department logo and is currently in use throughout the community.
