ALFRED, NY – Alfred Police Chief Paul Griffith says that a Flushing New York man, Ravi Vitel, 26, is facing serious charges for allegedly committing fraud. Vitel is accused of shaking down an Alfred Village resident, by pretending to be with the Federal Trade Commission.
The victim says they got a call from someone claiming to be with the Federal Trade Commission and reportedly told the Alfred resident that they had to pay up a lot of money because they had been the victim of a fraud. A large sum of money was said to be needed, in order to clear the victim’s reputation. The arrest was made by Alfred Village Police, SUNY Police, the Buffalo Nickel City Financial Task Force and Homeland Security.
Ravi Vitel is in Allegany County Jail $50,000 dollars bail.
